Temple and ball court unearthed in the heart of Mexico City
This article is about an ancient Aztec temple and ball court unearthed in the
heart of Mexico City. Archaeologists found an Aztec temple and ball court in Mexico City. The temple is said to be built in 1486-1502 during the reign of the Aztec emperor Ahuizotl. Aztec archaeologist Eduardo Matos says that the top of the temple was likely built to resemble a coiled snake. Priests would enter through a doorway that was supposed to look like a serpent’s nose. This temple is a massive circular-shaped temple. The god’s name is Ehecatl this temple was dedicated to him, he is the god of wind in the Aztec culture. The ball court was a smaller part of the ritual. This event happened in Mexico City just behind the city’s colonial-era Roman Catholic cathedral off the main Zocalo plaza on the grounds of a hotel. the hotel was in built in the 1950's and has been standing above this ancient structure for many years. only after the hotel was taken down was when many archaeologists found the structure underneath the earth. My opinion on this is that i think that the people of mexico city should unearth this magnificent structure and turn it into a museum for the public to see. i think that this structure that was found will not only bring more knowledge about the Aztec's but also be a symbol so that the people know their roots and not forget that once there was a great empire were they are standing today. this article was really interesting to me because i love learning about the Mexican culture and learning about where i am from and where my ancestors once were.
